Actually living entity Posts: 143 From: Earth Joined: 15-January 11 | I got a new PC (of 2008) from a friend. - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (1866 MHz) - 1.5 GB DDR2 RAM (333 MHz) - Geforce 7650 GFX card died so he bought a new one. - Geforce G210 (512MB) - 300W Power supply Now, i have the most scary problem i've ever faced while messing around with a PC. Could you guys tell me why my new pc needs 6 MINUTES + 41 SECONDS (no joke!) to draw the BIOS POST infos on screen!? I can see how all the letters are getting drawn - 1 to 2 seconds each - when a Low-end Geforce G210 (512MB) is plugged in the PCI-e slot. Just when the POST screen has completely been drawn, everything is working as fast as it should. - Windows boots as quick as it should. - 3D applications are no problem. - No system crashes. - A 10 years old PCI Geforce 2 MX 400 (64MB) makes no problem. - A 5 years old PCI-e Radeon X1300 LE / X1550 (64MB) makes no problem. - The original (but damaged) GFX card also makes no problems while booting (besides its damaged and windows crashes after a while of showing some LSD like color effects:). WTF IS GOING ON! Does this freaking strange behavier occour if the Power Supply does not provide enough power? Might it be some defective PCI-e related Motherboard stuff? Is it possible that the old GFX card damaged the Motherboard or even the Power supply? Or am i cursed? I've had about 15 or 20 PCs (old and less old - ..MHz to ..GHz) and i saw them all from insinde.. But i have no expierience in this modern PCs. As i can see, there are only a few, but competent people hanging around in this forum. Plus, you guys are gamers, so.. i hope you know about BIOS and/or hardware related problems. Sorry for abusing this forum for my troubleshooting but this seems to be the best address after two weeks of investigating my problem via google. EDIT: Thanks in advance for any suggestions! If that won't work, you could try making the "maybe deadly" procedure of updating the BIOS from your manufacturer's website. |

I've even took off the battery, disconnected every unneeded devices, drives and power and then i pressed the power button for more than 1 minute (don't laugh. this can help if there are electricity issues). i have 3 PCI-e cards for testing. one is dead (but system boots). one is crap. and the usable one makes the system POST screen take 6,66 minutes! The usable one, geforce 210, is not realy a gamer card. 512MB DDR2 64bit GPU 589 MHz RAM 400 MHz Shader 1402 MHz The system could handle much more i think. I wanna buy a better one and i will propably need another power supply wich supports at least 400W or something. But before i do so, i need to know where the problem comes from. EDIT: One more thing.. The geforce 210 is a PCI-e 2.0 card. The Motherboard PCI-e Controller is version 1.0. Could this be a problem? But im quiet impatient and the boot process takes forever, which is a pain in the ass if i need to reboot after a sys crash or installing stuff. Well, since the updated Motherboard BIOS didnt solve the problem, does nvidia and such provide GFX chip BIOS updates? i never heard of this though.. -------------------- |

The reason i could'nt find any solution in the threads i have read until now is propably because the authors exploded with thier PCs. Its a supermarket PC , but the best (most powerful) i've ever had. I just dont wanna spend a lot of money for nothing.. -------------------- |
